Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
