Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
