Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
