Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
