Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
