Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
