Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
