Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
