Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
