Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
