Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
