Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
