Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
