Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
