Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
