Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
