Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
