Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
