Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
