Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
