Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
