Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
