Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
