Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
