Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
