Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
