Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
