Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
