Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
