Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
