Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
