Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
