Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
