Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
