Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
