Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
