Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
