Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
