Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
