Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
