Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
