Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
