Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
