Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
