Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
