Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
