Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
