Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
