Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
