Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
